WELCOME TO DOC FORD COUNTRY!

best seller list))

Randy’s newest Doc Ford, CHASING MIDNIGHT, will be released in on 6 March 2012 (signings on Sanibel are March 4 & 5) and he thinks it’s not only among his best thrillers, but also, in his words, “I think this is Tomlinson and Ford interplaying at their best. The dialogue between the two was a joy to write, and reveals much about the complicated polarity that, at once, adjoins and separates these two good men.”
“The book is set entirely on Florida’s west coast, and has much to do with Gulf sturgeon, a little known species of fish that was once common in the area. I did a great deal of research on sturgeon, caviar, and the black market caviar trade, all key to what is (once again) a complicated plot -- but a plot line that charges along, chapter to chapter, from the book’s very first sentence:
“I was beneath fifteen-feet of water, at night, observing a dinosaurian fish that produces a modern gourmet delicacy, when something exploded and knocked out the marina’s underwater lights. . . .
“Chapter to chapter, CHASING MIDNIGHT rarely pauses for a breath from the start, but, when it does, it is for those reflective pauses during which Ford and Tomlinson interact, and sometimes lock horns -- something I always enjoy. CHASING MIDNIGHT is pure Florida, full of the Dinkin’s Bay characters that are my life, my home.”
   -- Steve Grendon

Tomlinson might or might not be modeled after real people but, to their many kindred readers, the two men are as real as Florida’s Gulf Coast and the islands that provide the settings for Randy’s novels.  If you have read all seventeen novels (soon to be eighteen) you’ll recognize a few faces here, a few names and more than a few quirky characters.  But if you are new to Doc Ford country, we hope you, too, find a home among the sun-baked, laid-back people who inhabit Florida’s Mangrove Coast of fiction and fact.
